Tech development is starting to take a closer look at the human aspect of the internet. Web 3.0 is all about stepping away from centralization and caring for the end user and their experience.

This means that in the future, power is placed back in the hands of individuals. We have to relearn how we use and interact with the internet. So, what’s your role in the evolution of technology?

What’s a Trade-Off You Can Accept?

Alexander and Jason have a deep discussion on the trade-offs people have to face in tech development, following research posted by Jamie Burke entitled “Building in the Metaverse.” Moving forward, each element within the metaverse’s system will require developers to make a decision between open/shared or closed/gated and proprietary.

Aspects like the user persona, in-world assets, economics, content, software backend and more can all be tweaked to either be open or closed to some degree.

However, there will always be imperfections, regardless of your system’s design. For example, a DAO would have to have leaders who are meant to represent everyone—but these leaders may eventually try swaying the votes to their favor.

On a C-Suite level, these leaders could also hold private meetings with one another and try gaming the entire system. Essentially, the voting process ends up becoming centralized.

These are issues we have to deal with while we are at the start of innovating new technologies. Giving outside forces an avenue to monopolize these developments lessens the capacity for these technologies to represent the will of the people.

Stop Being a TARTLE NPC

One aspect we are proud of telling our employees at TARTLE is that they are working, not to become the main character of the story, but to be the Sherpas of the people on the ground.

Everybody, regardless of socioeconomic status or location, is fighting their own battles and climbing their own mountains. Our role here isn’t to become the hero of the journey. It’s to help you realize that you are capable of empowering yourself and owning that role.

Some people only ever become NPCs in the game of life. They sign up for TARTLE, open up the opportunity to start their heroic journey, and then never take the next step.

Others choose to walk that journey, take charge of their data, own their power, and get paid for it.

This is your sign to make that choice. What trade-off are you willing to accept?

Here are some things you need to know about the metaverse.

First off, Alexander and Jason believe that the metaverse is an individual human’s choice on what they say is their reality.

Second, it’s not some far-off end goal that your grandkids are eventually going to discover. The metaverse is already starting to happen in the here and now.

Lastly, the lines between the physical and the digital have blurred significantly. When we rely on our perception to decide on our definition of reality, what happens to our values, beliefs, and relationships when we have the technology needed to simulate all the physical aspects of this world?

Lost in Translation Between Physical and Digital

Most of society is lost in the digital. We spend so much time projecting our lives on the internet through the perfect photos and the wittiest posts. But this isn’t an ideal system, or even a healthy one for human beings. We are not getting paid for all the work we put into refining our identity online.

Beyond that, the movement from physical to digital means that a lot of the physical comforts that may be denied to us in the real world can now be pursued freely online. And when people are looking for a dopamine rush, they’re bound to go for what’s most readily available. Think of virtual reality porn and Oculus goggles.

If we must face a future with the metaverse, we need to think about the kind of values we would want that technology to emulate for humanity.

Closing Thoughts

TARTLE believes in a user-centric metaverse, where everyone can access the platform and use it to empower themselves through their own hard work. You have the power to create and share your data, get paid for your efforts, and withdraw that payment so you can use it for your benefit.

These are real and tangible benefits that were derived from a purely digital platform. A seamless back-and-forth between the physical and the digital. It’s a balanced and humane application of a metaverse.

How do you understand the metaverse?

It’s on its way and it’s going to change the world. One day, you will have the power to load all of your senses into the online space. You’ll see, hear, and touch a digital landscape. And at the pace that this technology is developing right now, we may even be smelling and tasting things online as well.

The pace of innovation we are experiencing today was first made possible with Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG), especially World of Warcraft (WoW). The opportunity to charge into battle as a worgen hunter or draeneian priest captured everyone’s imagination. This was your chance to train a highly customized character in an open world with its own economic system, political controversies, and social structure.

A few years later, the next big step is taken: virtual reality headsets. You’ve effectively gone from a third-party perspective of another world to a first-person point of view.

Preserving Humanity in the Metaverse

Before the metaverse can happen, Alexander and Jason discuss the benefits of developing augmented reality even further. It’s the next natural step in the evolution of technology; the chance to “overlay our eyeballs.”  We can swap out the physical world for a full immersion into a digital landscape.

While this would be a massive step forward for humanity, a lack of people-centered foresight could mean that augmented reality (and subsequently, the metaverse) may become a place that brings out the worst in people.

Imagine how emboldened trolls are on social media platforms, and then take it up a notch. Those trolls will have the same access to avatars and the metaverse that you do. They’ll hide behind the same tools that you use to connect with other people—and the scary part is that they might not have to face any penalties for their behavior.

Closing Thoughts

The TARTLE metaverse exists so that people have the opportunity to understand their self-worth. It’s a platform that treats people as empowered individuals instead of animals on a data farm.

Eventually, we will be exploring a world without physical boundaries. Amidst all these changes, we need to ensure that the technologies we develop continue to put humans first. Sign up for TARTLE through this link here.

What’s something you’ve done in the past month that, you believe, has an impact on humanity’s evolution? Or, at the very least, your personal evolution in your human experience?

We’ve innovated and developed so many technologies to help improve our quality of living. Think of the machinery and AI that goes into putting food on our tables. From local farms to processing areas to grocery stores, we are incredibly lucky to be living in such comfortable times.

But what if we could still take things a step further? Imagine a future where you can bypass grocery stores and farms because you’ve got your food growing on your very own kitchen counter.

Too Much Time on the Road?

The reality is that we spend a lot of time in transit to other activities. For example, our daily commutes to and from work. Our “quick trips” to the local supermarket. These activities disrupt our regular flow. And while it’s true that some of us may find these activities enjoyable, it feels more like we’re adapting to the mediocrity of what is instead of fighting for what can be.

We can spend more time finding enjoyment in connecting with nature, the way we were meant to do so. Hiking, going to the park, taking your dogs on a walk. Spending time with our families. These are the evolutive and cultural things that need to occur for you to increase your self-awareness.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced us to take some pretty ingenious measures so we could ensure the survival of our loved ones and our communities. For example, businesses started allowing work from home setups. In some places around the world, grocery vans patrol the area and allow people to buy without leaving their homes.

This sudden change in our daily flow may not have been the best introduction to a more introspective life. But it’s a glimpse to a world where we are capable of being more self-sufficient. Where opportunities come knocking at our door, instead of the other way around.

Exploring the Metaverse

Someday, the internet will become a place where we can fully live in, with our five senses. We can create avatars of ourselves and “travel” to meetings with teammates from around the world. We would also be living under a digital economy, where users can create, buy, and sell goods.

It’s difficult to pin down the full scope of what the metaverse is, because how accurately can we paint a picture of a world that’s yet to come? What we can tell you is that if we play our cards right today, the research and development in these technologies should create a world where humanity is at the center of its evolution.

Where we have the opportunity to truly transcend, to live out the authentic human experience.

Closing Thoughts

Technology gives us the capacity to remove redundancies that do not contribute to our evolution. All those routine activities that you used to have to do, just to survive? Let them be managed automatically by machine learning and AI. That way, we can focus on the things that make us human.
